Endeavour Trust approved for Amazon Smile

Amazon Smile is a charitable donations programme run by Amazon. For every eligible purchase on the platform, Amazon will make a donation of 0.5% of the net cost of the product (excluding VAT, returns and shipping fees) to the charity of your choice free-of-charge to you, and we are pleased to say that the Leigh-on-Sea Endeavour Trust is one you can choose to donate to if you are a resident of the UK.

All you have to do is use a dedicated link when you use Amazon; smile.amazon.co.uk. The first time you do this, after you log in, you will be asked to select your charity and there after, as long as you use that dedicated Amazon Smile link, we will get the donation from eligible purchases.

A few shots from the weekend of Endeavour's trip down to St Katherine's Dock where she was due to rendezvous with other Association of Dunkirk Little Ships craft. We were thrilled to have been joined by so many members for the journey and they all reported enjoying it very much indeed.

Join Us On The Thames

We are pleased to announce that Endeavour is all ready to go off on her travels again.

This time, it's a trip from Leigh up to St Katherine's Dock which is located just alongside Tower Bridge. We will be motoring up and meeting around 10 other boats from the Association of Dunkirk Little ships at the dock.

Facebook Donations Go Live

From time to time the Trust receives correspondence from individuals who might not be a member of the Trust, but would like to make a donation to help out. To help out, we added a PayPal Donate button to our website a little while ago, but now we're delighted to announce that the Trust has been approved to recieve donations from users on Facebook.

This means that you will now see a blue 'Donate' button on our Facebook page via which you can make a donation of whatever amount you please to the Leigh-on-Sea Endeavour Trust. 100% of your donation comes to us; Facebook does not charge us fees.

This edition contains news on Endeavour's return to Leigh, memoriam notices to two of our key supporters and news about veteran status. We also have a couple of requests to make of our supporters.

As it has for many people, lockdown has been a very difficult period and will have serious implications for the Trust's ability to operate. If people are in a position to provide assistance, whether financial (see the Donate button in the left hand menu or going to the Donate menu link on mobile) or by volunteering their time, effort and expertise, it would be greatly appreciated.

Home at Last!

Endeavour arrived back in Leigh in the early hours of June 9th having been sailed from St Osyth. Tide times meant skipper Paul Gilson and Alan Barrtram, his crew, had extra hours at sea waiting for Leigh Creek to become navigable. They were finally able to tie up at Bell Wharf at around 2am.

Little Ships Deserve Veteran Status

The Association of Dunkirk Little Ships has asked Minister for Veterans' Affairs, Johnny Mercer to give the boats veteran status.

Ian Gilbert, the vice admiral of the ADLS has written to the Minister, “That it be considered that the Little Ships be recognised for their unique role in our heritage” by being designated as “veterans” under the Armed Forces Covenant.

When Mike King and Peter Wexham and John Porter discussed finding and restoring one of the Leigh Dunkirk boats they were considering Resolute which had been traced to Rochester, Kent. The group asked Michael Guy, editor of the Leigh Times to join them.

Your historic boat needs you! We know there are younger and fitter members of the Trust out there.

We would rather they - you - took a more active part in running the boat and managing her future.

When Endeavour was rescued from Rochester in 2001 it was clear that expert help was needed to restore her. My first thought turned to John Milgate who spent 14 months re-decking my 86 year old boat, Hypatia.
