Summer Reception

A record one hundred and thirty-five members and guests attended our fourth summer reception. This was held once again at Osborne Bros. on Billet Wharf in the Old Town. The weather, although breezy and a bit chilly for a June evening, was thankfully dry. This year we welcomed the Hoy Shanty Crew who entertained us with a blend of traditional shanties and choral songs.

We were delighted to welcome four special guests; veterans David Wightman and Alfred Smith, Bill Brewster and Michael Guy from the Leigh Times. Michael along with Mike King, Peter Wexham and John Porter were the intrepid quartet that made that historic visit to Rochester to look at Resolute

She was in too bad a condition but... "there was Endeavour..." and so our restoration project unfolded on that inauspicious day.  Michael, through his newspaper, has been very supportive of the Trust’s work aptly illustrated with ‘the Voice of Leigh’ article in the edition following the reception. Thank you... Michael!

We are grateful to Peter and Sue Osborne for the use of their premises and for allowing the use of their adjacent mooring for Endeavour.

Thanks also to Luke and his team at the Crooked Billet, especially for supplying an ‘Endeavour ale’ for the occasion.

Seven hundred and fifty pounds was raised which could not have been possible without the help of so many members who generously donated raffle prizes.

Plans for next year’s reception are already in the pipe line and we’re delighted to confirm that it will take place at Osborne’s.
