Back in the Marina

On Monday 24th October, a crack team of Alan Barttram, Chris Burls and Andy Lewis moved Endeavour into her more protected winter berth at Leigh Marina

The Marina have given her pride of place, on a pontoon berth. This was noted with much thanks, as it makes it much easier for some of our more senior volunteers to get on and off board!

Endeavour will remain at the Marina over winter allowing us to carry out essential maintenance to get her ready for next year. We would love to hear from anyone that would be interested in assisting with volunteering; do drop us a line by contacting membership secretary Chris Burls on 01702 553274 or droggy39@gmail.com.

Welcome to the Autumn Newsletter

Welcome to an issue of the newsletter that could have been half as big again! In fact, due to the additional space that the website gives us, we've expanded a few of our stories to give more photos and more information than we had room for in the printed version.

We were lucky enough to host both our MP and Southend's major on a recent trip. You can read all about it and see a short film we compiled. We have an extended version of a report about a model of Endeavour that two enthusiasts put together. Endeavour flew the red ensign at half mast during the Queen's funeral. We have details of the annual dinner, the AGM, and a report on the pub sign that features a certain boat plus more.

Please drop us a line if you have any comments, or post a message on our Facebook page

An MP, Mayor & Macebearer Go Motoring

As part of the Trust’s commitment to giving Endeavour a more prominent profile in the local area, we were delighted to take out some distinguished guests for a return trip to the pier on Friday 27 August. We were very lucky to have ideal conditions.

A Model Subject

In September, we received an email from Jimmy Waters containing some photos of Endeavour at Maldon. We posted the picture above on our Facebook page and it duly got loads of likes.

In the comments, we posted a further two pictures and said, "If you look a little closer, you might realise - if you hadn’t already - things aren’t quite what they seem!" This was because the boat hasn’t been to
Maldon recently, and as you will see from the other shots on this page, it was actually a beautiful scale model made by Barbara and Jimmy Waters.

RIP Your Majesty

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Endeavour displayed the red ensign at half mast for the day of her funeral, 19th September.

Annual Dinner 2022

We are pleased to announce that this year’s Annual Dinner to benefit the Trust is set to be our best yet!  John Pearman and Mark Burns, who were responsible for the recent quiz night at The Hatch (see back page) have pulled out all the stops for this year’s event.

Hatch Quiz Night a Great Success

The quiz night at The Hatch at The Old Foundry at the start of August was a roaring success! John Pearman and Mark Burns organised an excellent evening’s entertainment.

2022 Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of the Leigh-on-Sea Endeavour Trust will be held on Thursday 10th November, 2022 at 7.00 pm at Leigh Community Centre, 71-73 Elm Road, Leigh-on-Sea SS9 1SP.

Papers will be available on the website in advance of the meeting.

The AGM is a great opportunity for members to meet up and find out about Endeavour’s year, so please do come along.

Help Wanted

We are always looking for new volunteers to assist the Trust.

This could be anything from maintenance to crewing, back office help to assisting when we put the gazebo up at events. If you know someone that might be interested in helping out, please do ask them to contact our membership secretary Chris Burls on 01702 553274 or droggy39@gmail.com.

We’re a friendly bunch and there’s good companionship and a sense of achievement to be had from lending a hand!

Subscriptions are Due

The Trust depends on the support of its members, and we are extremely grateful that our members value the work we do.

The Peterboat Sign

Members will probably recall that if they go into the Peterboat, they can buy a pint of Hilda B, a session bitter from which the Trust receives 10p per pint.
