The Peterboat Sign

Members will probably recall that if they go into the Peterboat, they can buy a pint of Hilda B, a session bitter from which the Trust receives 10p per pint.

Now the Peterboat has another connection to Endeavour— her sign!

The term ‘Peter boat’ or ‘peterboat’ originally referred to a double-ended boat without gunwales. Later, the term came to mean a small, decked fishing boat, closely associated with the Thames and nearby coasts, so Endeavour is a great example of a more recent peterboat!

So, next time you’re in Old Leigh, look up at the sign and maybe pop in a for a pint of Hilda B!
