Summer Social at the Osbornes

Sixty members and friends gathered at Osbornes Cafe, Billet Wharf, on 17th July on a fine summer’s evening. A BBQ skewer meal was served by the friendly staff and enjoyed by all, while the mastless Endeavour lay on her mooring nearby.

There was quite a bit of chat about where the new mast might come from (see story) among other topics.
Trustee and Treasurer Carl Pullen gave a short, but well-received address about the recent Dunkirk Little Ships reunion voyage, giving a few highlights before promising that the whole story would be told at the Laying Up Supper planned for Friday 7th November.

Then it was over to our good friends the Hoy Shanty Crew, who  entertained the crowd with a selection of new and familiar songs from their extensive repertoire.

There was plenty of lusty singing along from the crowd, so there was no question about how well they’d gone down.

The evening concluded with the presentation of a substantial cheque to the Trust by the Leigh Lions President Sue Gasper, being 50% of the proceeds from the recent Old Leigh Shanty Festival, organised by the Lions. The other beneficiary was the RNLI. We are extremely grateful for the continued support from the Lions over so many years.

A generously supported raffle raised an additional £300+ for the mast replacement fund.
