Our good friends, Marmus, a local boat survey business, came to our aid by first making precise measurements of the old mast and transmitting them to the manufacturers who, once fabricated and preserved, delivered the mast to Old Leigh. As Marmus had commissioned the replacement, they were presented with the account and, most generously, cleared it at no cost to the Trust!
Endeavour started her centenary year with other quandaries with which to contend.
Although, once again, Leigh Marina had found room to accommodate her during the lay-up period, there was no room in the Spring to lift her out of the water, so maintenance had to be achieved between tides on the slipway - despite the mud deposits.
On top of this, the mooring off the Peter Boat, which we have used over the past good number of years thanks to the generosity of local fisherman Steve Dell, has been reclaimed by the owner. We remain ever grateful to him to have had its use for so long.At the time of going to press it is hoped that our presidents, the Osborne family, will be able to provide an alternative mooring close to the creek and not too far away from the former, where she was in plain sight to the visitors in the Old Town.
Watch this space!
